That's right. The March/April issue of Shades of the Departed is in, and we're talking politics in this issue, folks. Literally. And check out my article on resources for finding your ancestors political proclivities. It won't knock your socks off, but it could be called [and is] A Call To Arms.
March is Women's History Month
This month, Shades is celebrating Women's History Month and it has just hit the newsstands! [Well, the digital ones, that is.] That's right, 73 pages of yummy goodness. So, if you have female ancestors [and don't tell me you don't], then you absolutely must check it out! Don't have female ancestors? You're lying, so go read it! [wink] Oh, and there's an article from a certain fave professional photo restoration artist of mine. I'd tell you her name, but why don't you go look at her awesome article.

Shades - Resolved in 2010
January's Shades the Magazine is an issue with resolve packed full of beautiful old photos.
Not only for the genealogist or family historian, January's Shades appeals to the those interested in family, photographs, and scrapbooking. If you're like me, and like to look at the pics in magazines, you're in for a special treat.
Looking to take your digital magazine with you wherever you go? Shades can even be downloaded in PDF format. With my new cutie patootie red netbook that I got from Santa, this will come in so handy. Just imagine: Shades in the car line at school, Shades at the car wash, Shades at the bookstore, Shades at the coffee shop, and Shades at basketball practice. I can have Shades wherever I want to read it, and I don't even need Wi-Fi because it's on my netbook in PDF format. That, FS Gang, is beast! [My 12 year old daughter swears that "beast" is the new "cool." Hence, I'm using it. I mean, I definitely want to be cool. I mean beast. ;) ]
Oh, I almost forgot. I have a column in Shades, called IN2Genealogy. I'd tell you all about it, but then, that'd be double the work for me. So, go check it out. There's gonna be a quiz later.

You simply must go get your copy of this issue. It's practically flying off the newsstand shelves [well, the virtual ones, that is.].
Your Ancestors Really Don't Want to Live in a Box!
Do you have a box of old photographs on the top shelf of your closet that you inherited? Have you had the time to go through them? Or maybe you have "sifted" through them, but you don't have any idea what "to do" with them? Maybe you know they're your family, but you don't know who they are. Well, what are you waiting for? Roll up your sleeves, get the box down, and blow off the dust. Your family story is in that box for goodness sakes! Is this how you want your descendants to handle your family story? Do you want to be just an unidentified photo in a box on the top shelf of one of your descendant's closets? I didn't think so. So liberate your ancestors from that box!
Something Shady Can Be Helpful
Old photos ~ even unidentified ~ are a great resource for finding your family story, and lucky for you, I know of an informative and beautiful tool to get you started on this journey of finding your family story. This past Friday, the footnoteMaven's Shades of the Departed e-magazine debuted. Formerly in blog format, the monthly e-magazine can be read online or downloaded in PDF format for your reading pleasure. And I really do mean "pleasure" ~ it's absolutely beautiful with motivating and informative articles to help you with your family story. Oh, and guess what? You don't have to know how to spell genealogy to read it...you'll probably learn how to spell it, though. [If you want...] The whole point is to get you interested in finding, preserving, and sharing your family story, especially through old photographs. After all, everyone has a family story, right?
